INSTALLING THE SRNSS SOFTWARE

NOTE: You must have administrator privileges to install the SRNSS software.

Install the SRNSS software by running the setup program (SRNSS_setup.exe). The setup program runs the Windows Installer. As the setup program runs, accept all of the defaults.

Assuming that you chose the default install location, the SRNSS program (SRNSS.exe) is installed in the folder:

    C:\Program Files\USGS\WATER\SRNSS

The setup also puts its own copy of MODFLOW in the same folder as the SRNSS.exe application. When you run MODFLOW from within SRNSS, the local copy of MODFLOW is the one that is executed. It will not interfere with any other copy of MODFLOW that may be installed on the computer. This approach makes the installation totally self-contained and not dependent on having a computer with the right version of MODFLOW installed.

NOTE: This version of the setup program does not create a desktop icon, so you may want to create a shortcut on your desktop.

RUNNING THE SOFTWARE

At startup, the SRNSS software loads the base case dataset selected for the initial conditions (0 years). The first time you run the software, the base case is the only available dataset.

DATA LOCATION

Note that, for now, all of the data is stored in a folder named "Shared SRNSS Datasets" that is a subfolder of the Shared Documents folder, which should be:

   C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents

The pathname to the datasets folder is displayed in the title bar of the application. This approach makes it easy for anyone to use the software right away. The drawback is that it does not give users flexibility to save their own personal scenarios.
