Facilities at the Hydrologic Instrumentation Facility

The HIF has a number of laboratories and field-testing sites that offer unique capabilities for the evaluation of hydrologic instrumentation and equipment. The hydraulic laboratory is equipped with tanks and flumes that can be used to test instruments under a variety of conditions. The HIF deploys equipment for field evaluations at stations located on the Pearl and Wolf Rivers. In addition the HIF uses a variety of environmental test chambers and a water quality laboratory to quality assure and evaluate instruments and equipment.

Hydraulic Laboratory

The Hydraulic Laboratory is a one-of-a-kind facility within the United States used to test and calibrate hydrologic instruments used in water-resources investigations and to obtain experimental data used in research studies on the mechanics of flow and the transport and dispersion of heat, solutes, and solids in rivers and estuaries.
