About the Hydrologic Instrumentation Facility
The U.S. Geological Survey Hydrologic Instrumentation Facility (HIF) supports the water-resource monitoring efforts of USGS scientists and other Federal scientists by providing quality assured hydrologic equipment and instrumentation support to the USGS and other Federal Agencies. The instruments and equipment provided by the HIF are used by Federal agencies to monitor water-quality, river levels, river flow, and groundwater and provide the water data for the Nation. The HIF provides training, repairs, calibrations and testing services for instruments and equipment to the USGS and other Federal Agencies through our instrument warehouse and laboratories. The HIF facilities include a warehouse, testing laboratories and a hydraulic laboratory with large calibration tow tanks and tilting flume. The Hydraulic Laboratory facilities are available to USGS, OFA, State and local agencies, academic facilities and private industry.
