PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (NC) Flooding caused by remnants of Hurricane Isaias

Date: Sun, 11 Oct 2026 13:37:43 EDT

Summary: Flooding in western North Carolina and upstate South Carolina caused by remnants of Hurricane Isaias

Over the past two days, western North Carolina and upstate South Carolina received between 2 and more than 7 inches of rainfall from the remnants of Hurricane Isaias. The highest rainfall totals were recorded east of Asheville, primarily along the Blue Ridge Escarpment.

On October 11, 2026, the Asheville Field Office of the South Atlantic Water Science Center deployed three crews to measure streamflow at seven gaging stations and perform repairs at one additional gage. One of these stations (USGS gage 0344894205) was relocated following Hurricane Helene. The measurements collected today will improve the stage-discharge rating and support the publication and approval of streamflow data extending back to shortly after Hurricane Helene (September 27, 2024).
