PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (CA) Post TS Rachel

Date: Sun, 11 Oct 2026 11:33:21 EDT

Summary: TS Rachel leaves So Cal wet but mostly undamaged

TS Rachel blew through Southern California overnight leaving us with some much needed rainfall. Precip totals in San Diego County, Imperial County, and Riverside County ranged anywhere from .75 inches at the coast to a bit over 2 inches in most of the mountainous regions. Imperial County registered the least amounts of rain while in the Coachella Valley there were two isolated gages that reported 3 inch totals.
Runoff was sparse as the ambient conditions were extremely dry given that these areas had not seen any rainfall since last February.
Currently the rainfall has reduced to drizzles and the winds are calm. We are forecast to receive a bit more through out the day which will add to the 'soaking' value. Runoff at our gages has peaked at most gages and is receding.
Poway field office is sending out three staff to get a few follow up measurements to qualify shifts in San Diego County and Riverside.
Long beach coastal areas did suffer some damages yesterday as the storm surge coupled together with the extremely high tides caused overflows into oceanfront residential areas there. There was no damage to USGS gages.
Respectfully submitted.
