PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (IN) Major flooding in Indiana

Summary: Major flooding is occurring in Indiana.

An additional 2-4 inches of rain fell last night on already saturated soils in central and eastern Indiana. The river basin that is most affected is the White River basin which flows from northeast of Indianapolis then eventually into Indianapolis. Most USGS river sites on the White River are in the Major flood category range.

Evacuation orders have been issued for the town of Anderson Indiana and a state of emergency was declared in Hamilton County, Indiana.

Presently there are five USGS river gages experiencing peaks of records mostly on the White River.

There are four crews and a total of 7 USGS employees measuring high water and the crews are focusing on the White River today.

USGS has been in contact with the National Weather Service. The National weather Service requested a measurement on the White River at Noblesville be made.
