Summary: A historic and record-shattering rainstorm struck eastern New York State on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, with heavy rain continuing into Wednesday, July 29. The slow-moving system dumped 5–12 inches of rain across the Hudson Valley and Capital Region, with some areas exceeding state records.

Crews from the New York Water Science Center mobilized on July 29 to evaluate hydrologic conditions, inspect affected gaging infrastructure, and obtain discharge measurements at priority sites.
