PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (TX) Heavy Rainfall & Continued River Flooding Risk in Texas

Date: Tue, 14 Jul 2026 13:14:02 EDT

Summary: Very heavy rainfall remains in the forecast across portions of Texas.

The Oklahoma–Texas Water Science Center is closely monitoring ongoing rainfall and river conditions across the region. Over the past 24 hours, several areas have received 4 to 10 inches of rain, leading to rapidly saturating soils. Because of the terrain and current moisture levels, any additional rainfall will run off quickly, increasing the potential for flash flooding and rising river levels. Our teams will continue to track conditions and respond as needed to support partners and the public.

The primary area of concern extends from the Rio Grande eastward to the San Antonio area. Forecast models from the Western Gulf River Forecast Center (WGRFC) show strong agreement on very high rainfall totals across this corridor. As a result, moderate to major river flooding is expected, especially in locations that receive the heaviest rainfall. Heavy rainfall risk stretches east along I 10 toward Houston.
