Summary: Field Crews mopping up in Santa Barbara and LA areas.
Crews from our San Luis Obispo, Redlands and Poway FOs are in the field today getting some recessionary measurements from the AR event of 12\24. The heaviest amounts of precep fell in the Santa Barbara mountains, and the higher elevations of the San Gabriel's and the San Bernardino mountains. Most notable in the community of Wrightwood where the 24 hour total was over 10 inches. This caused some significant localized flooding which flowed into Phelan and down the Cajon Canyon into San Bernardino. LA County Sheriffs reported several water related rescues in various places it the LA Basin but no deaths were reported. Flooding down stream in Cajon Cyn appears to have damaged the orifice at one gage located on Cajon Creek at much lower elevations. Another gage may have been damaged in the Santa Barbara area and crews are assessing these today. The ACOE has a magnificant flood contorl system in place in the LA Basin that controls all but the biggest flood waters in the San Gaberial River, the LA River and the Santa Ana River. Hence floods routed down stream did little damage to local communities. For instance, flows on the Santa Ana River this morning are reporting inflows into the Prado Retention Basin of 8,000 CFS while outflows from Prado Dam release are being held to a mere 280 CFS. Thank you ACOE. Peak flows were mostly in Monitoring Stage, there were no peaks of record.
