PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (CA) high flows near Santa Barbara CA

Summary: USGS CAWSC field crews measuring high flow at USGS streamgages in Southern California due to intense rainfall.

High amounts of rain continue to fall in the mountains of Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties; flood advisories remain for much of the state. Over the last 4 days, a total of 11 inches, and in some areas, over 13 inches fell, creating extended high flow conditions. On Friday, one person in Sutter County died after his car was washed off of a flooded bridge. Widespread rainfall is forecast to continue for the next several days.

Four USGS teams totaling 7 staff are measuring in the Santa Barbara County, Cuyama Valley, and Ventura County areas. No period of record peaks at USGS streamgages are expected at this time.
