PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (NM) Flooding in Ruidoso, NM

Summary: NMWSC field crews are responding to the flood event in Ruidoso, NM.

On Tuesday July 8th Ruidoso, NM experienced significant rainfall over the burn scars from the South Fork and Salt wildfires resulting in a flash flood. Two streamgages on the Rio Ruidoso were impacted by the flodding. The 08386505 RIO RUIDOSO AT RUIDOSO, NM streamgage is suspected to be badly damaged by the flooding. The 08387000 RIO RUIDOSO AT HOLLYWOOD, NM streamgage may have set a new peak gage-height record of all time from the flooding. Four hydrologic technicians are on site in Ruidoso, NM flagging high-water marks and doing gage repairs. Currently some sites are inaccessible due to flood debris blocking the road.
