PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (NC) local flooding in North Carolina

Summary: The USGS South Atlantic Water Science Center (SAWSC) North Carolina Data Section responds to local flood event in central North Carolina.

Alamance County, Orange County, and Durham County received between 2 to nearly 8 inches of rain.

Moderate to major flooding occurred at several sites in the Cape Fear, Neuse, and Roanoke basins.

A few stations exceeded the rating curve.

One station, Eno River at Hillsborough, NC – 02085000, was inundated and a rapid deployment gage was installed, the site is now transmitting. One stations float tape was hung up and fixed. The orifice broke at Morgan Creek Near Chapel Hill, NC – 02097517 and high water marks have been flagged.

5 field crews were deployed on July 7 to repair downed sites, make high water measurements, and flag high water marks. Field crews were deployed from the Raleigh and Charlotte office.
