PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (OK TX) Oklahoma and Texas Flooding

Date: Mon, 05 May 2025 16:11:07 EDT

Summary: Continued rainfall and flooding in Oklahoma and Texas.

Rainfall has continued along the Oklahoma-Texas border, with the upper Brazos River Basin experiencing the heaviest precipitation in the past 24 hours, accumulating approximately 4 to 5 inches. Additionally, there are isolated areas in North Texas and along the Red River that have also received significant rainfall.

Currently, several gaging stations in both Oklahoma and Texas are reporting levels above action stage. In Oklahoma, one site is in moderate flood stage and another in major flood stage, although both are beginning to recede. The Red River near Gainesville, TX, was measured very close to its peak. Site was measured on May 3, 2025, around 7:15 pm and the site peaked around 5:00 am on May 4, 2025. Our Integrated Hydrology + Data Science Branch made 4 measurements this weekend to further validate data being collected at stations where discharge computed using in-situ surface-velocity measurements are being evaluated.

We are observing an uptick in flooding in East Texas, but forecasts indicate that no sites are expected to exceed minor flood stage at this time.

All streamgages are currently operational. Currently North Texas has 4 crews in the field.
