PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (IN KY OH) Ohio Valley flooding continues to recede in some places but larger rivers are still cresting.

Date: Wed, 09 Apr 2025 10:19:31 EDT

Summary: The OKI Water Science Center continues to focus on flood response in Kentucky and Indiana.

Flooding of varying magnitudes continues for a seventh day on larger rivers in Kentucky and Indiana but has largely receded for smaller watersheds. No significant rainfall is expected across the Ohio Valley which should provide time for the river system to continue to recede over the next week.

The OKI WSC has 8 crews out today making measurements in Kentucky and Indiana. Two gages in Kentucky are still down with one other that may have an instrument issue. One was overtopped earlier in the event while the other one in a backwater area had the equipment removed yesterday in anticipation of conditions swamping it today. The unknown one is being visited today since it is important to ongoing flood conditions on the Green River in Kentucky. Neither of the down gages are critical to any current flood response needs at the federal or local level.

5 measurements of discharge were made yesterday at impacted sites in the 2 states. The response in Indiana and Kentucky continues to focus on large rivers as the various crests move through the system.

Measurements, gage issues, and coordination continue with other major federal partners as needed.
