Summary: The OKI Water Science Center continues to respond to widespread flooding across the Ohio River Valley with significant flooding continuing in central Kentucky as well as central Indiana.
The final band of heavy rain associated with this system fell overnight across portions of southern and eastern Indiana as well as central Kentucky. Widespread flooding of varying magnitudes continues for a fourth day across much of the Ohio Valley with major category flooding now occurring at several locations in central Kentucky.
The OKI WSC has 17 crews out today making measurements in all 3 states. Several gages in Kentucky have been overtopped on the Green (1) and Kentucky (2) rivers. Crews are attempting to put in temporary gages today at those locations. 53 measurements of discharge were made yesterday at impacted sites in all 3 states with several being the highest made in decades. Ratings were also extended at select sites in Indiana and Kentucky at the request of the National Weather Service where forecasts are anticipated to potentially go higher than the existing upper end of those ratings.
Measurements, gage issues, and coordination continue with other major federal partners. OKI personnel will also be participating in numerous inter-agency briefings throughout the day.
