PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (IN KY OH) Ongoing moderate to major category flooding occurring across the Ohio River Valley

Summary: The OKI Water Science Center continues to respond to widespread flooding across the Ohio River Valley with more significant flooding now occurring in western Kentucky.

A narrow band of heavy rain has fallen primarily over the western half of Kentucky over the past 48 hours. Widespread flooding of varying magnitudes is ongoing across much of the Ohio Valley in general with major category flooding starting in the Hopkinsville, KY area this morning.

The OKI WSC has 22 crews out today making measurements in all 3 states.  Two gages in Kentucky are currently down but are expected to be repaired by early this afternoon. 71 measurements of discharge were made yesterday at impacted sites in all 3 states. No period of record conditions have been observed at this time.

Measurements, gage issues, and coordination continue with other major federal partners. OKI personnel are also participating in numerous inter-agency briefings throughout the day.
