PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (VA) Flooding Impacts in SW Virginia

Summary: Significant flooding impacts in southwestern VA

A crew from the VA-WV WSC Marion Field office deployed on Feb. 16th to the upper Tennessee Basin to make discharge measurements following up to 7 inches of rain over the past six days. Rating verification measurements were made at two sites in the Holston River basin. Conditions across the region are still being assessed.

On Feb. 17th, a crew of four from the Marion Field office will be flagging an indirect measurement reach at Guyandotte River at Baileysville, WV. Peaks will also be confirmed at other sites in the basin.

A rain gage and groundwater monitoring site in Buchanan County, VA, were inundated by floodwater and are currently offline.
