PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (OH) Minor Flooding in Ohio

Date: Sun, 16 Feb 2025 07:41:29 EST

Summary: Minor flooding impacts Ohio, primarily south of Interstate 70.

Widespread 2 to 3 inches of rain fell on mostly frozen ground overnight, primarily from Interstate 70 and south. Minor flooding is occurring on streams in the Cincinnati area and sites near the Kentucky border.

No gages are experiencing a peak of record, however this is the most significant precipitation we have seen since last summer. One gage has questionable data as we believe the orifice line is being taken out by ice, which we plan to visit today.

Four USGS crews (8 people) will be out measuring high water today. Two crews will be in the Cincinnati area along the Little Miami and Mill Creek watersheds, one crew will be in the Newark Ohio area at the Licking River watershed and the final crew from New Philadelphia Ohio will be in southern Ohio at the Duck and Little Muskingum watershed.

At this early juncture of the day, the only interaction I have made is with the National Weather Service, however as the day progresses, I expect to notify other agencies of our response.
