PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (AR) Two-Day Rainfall Event Resulted in Minor Flooding in Northern Arkansas

Date: Tue, 05 Nov 2024 18:18:38 EST

Summary: Two days of heavy rainfall in northern Arkansas, with up to nine inches of rainfall reported, resulted in several streamgages reaching minor to moderate flood stages.

Approximately four streamgages were damaged, with the streamgage at Bear Creek near Omaha, AR (07054410) being destroyed. Five crews from our Little Rock and Fayetteville offices were in the field repairing gages and making high-flow measurements.

Streams in northwest AR are often very flashy, but the timing of this event helped to provide the opportunity for measuring stage values high on the rating curve at four Locations. Tomorrow (Wednesday 11-6), teams will focus on repairing damaged streamgages and preparing for an indirect at Bear Creek near Omaha, AR, which may have been a peak of record event.
