PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (FL) Hurricane Milton flood measurements

Date: Thu, 17 Oct 2024 15:44:00 EDT

Summary: Flood measurements continue in CFWSC-Orlando network area

Most smaller drainage basins are receding or encountering backwater conditions after the rainfall from Hurricane Milton in the Orlando area, but the larger basins are at or near their discharge peaks. A discharge measurement was made today on the St. Johns River at Astor (02236125) that ranked in the top-5 overall for 30 years of record. Another discharge measurement made at Reedy Creek at State Hwy 531 (02266550) set a new record after 40 years, surpassing the previous peak discharge by over 50%.

All gages damaged by the hurricane in Orlando's network are now operational, and staff will continue to measure the recessions to account for backwater conditions where warranted.
