PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (FL) Hurricane Milton response

Date: Fri, 11 Oct 2024 17:37:57 EDT

Summary: Hurricane Milton caused widespread flooding in Central Florida

Hurricane Milton caused widespread flooding in Central Florida, with some areas receiving over 15 inches of rain in less than 24 hours. Six crews from the USGS-Orlando office responded to measure high water and repair gages in the St. Johns and Kissimmee River basins when conditions improved after the storm passed.

Eleven sites were measured today; five were all-time high measurements and three were second-highest for the period of record. Periods of record ranged from 3 years to 64 years. Luckily, only two gages in the Orlando network suffered damage from the hurricane, and one was repaired today.
