PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (TN) LMG WSC Response to post-Helene Flooding in East Tennessee

Date: Thu, 03 Oct 2024 08:28:30 EDT

Summary: Field teams from the Lower Mississippi-Gulf Water Science Center, will focus on bringing data back online at Nolichucky River at Embreeville, TN (3465500).

Yesterday (10-2) A team from Knoxville started and finished flagging high-water marks along the Pigeon River at Newport, TN (03461500) to help support a future indirect discharge measurement. A team from Nashville also arrived in Knoxville with additional equipment and began preparing for a new streamgage install.

Today (10-3), all teams are heading to the Nolichucky River at Embreeville, TN (3465500). We have three goals:

1. Install a completely new streamgage located on the nearest downstream bridge.

2. Flag high-water marks along the river to support a future indirect discharge measurement.

3. Complete a level survey. The historical streamgage was destroyed, but a couple of reference marks were located and will be used to bring the new gage into datum.
