PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (TN) LMG WSC Response to post-Helene Flooding in East Tennessee

Summary: One team from the Knoxville office will begin flagging high-water marks to support indirect discharge calculations.

The team will focus on flagging high-water marks (HWMs) along the stream reach of Pigeon River at Newport, TN (03461500). Once the HWMs are identified, the team will begin survey efforts to determine elevations.

A team from Nashville, bringing extra equipment and material to support gage repairs, will be arriving at Knoxville, TN this afternoon.

Yesterday (10-1), a team successfully repaired the streamgage at Doe River at Elizabethton, TN (03485500), which had intermitted transmission issues.

Preliminary data indicates potential rating extensions needed at 6 streamgages within Tennessee.

2. Nolichucky River Near Lowland, TN (3467609)
3. Pigeon River at Newport, TN (3461500)
4. Doe River at Elizabethton, TN (3485500)
5. French Broad River Near Newport, TN (3455000)
6. Nolichucky River below Nolichucky Dam, TN (3466500)

We’ll know more as we continue to verify peaks and compute discharge values.
