Summary: Damage assessment and repairs continue at gaging locations along the Pasco, Hernando, and Citrus County coastlines.
The CFWSC Tampa office continues to assess the damage to the streamgaging network from Hurricane Helene in Pasco, Hernando, and Citrus Counties. The initial evaluation has proven to be better than expected. So far, we are finding the gage structures still intact and in safe conditions but were overtopped by the storm surge. The Tampa office is continuing to work on equipment replacement this week.
Yesterday, two teams were deployed to evaluate sites in the Gulf of Mexico and along the Homosassa River and Crystal River. Three sites were able to be repaired.
Two additional teams were deployed to retrieve storm surge sensors that were deployed from Venice to Crystal River ahead of the storm on behalf of the NOPP project. Information on these sites can be viewed in the Flood Event Viewer.
Today, six teams have been deployed to assess and repair the remaining 12 gages that went down during the storm.
