PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (FL) Hurricane Helene Storm Coastal Change Hazards Response

Summary: Event caused widespread coastal erosion, sand deposition, and flooding

Sensors will be retrieved and elevation data collected at field sites Madeira Beach, Ft De Soto, and Sand Key.This field work will provided updated information on the waves and water levels that caused historic coastal impacts. This activity will assess whether gages were lost or destroyed. Post-storm sensor retrieval and beach profile elevation data collection (land-based) at Pinellas County field sites is planned starting Oct 1, 202. Two to three usgs employees or contractors will conduct this work. Information will support broad interagency storm response effort, as well as updating future coastal hazard forecasts that are conducted cooperatively with NOAA.
