PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (GA NC SC) Impacts of Debby: SAWSC (UPDATE)

Date: Tue, 06 Aug 2024 16:02:46 EDT

Summary: Tropical Storm Debby is bringing heavy rainfall and flood conditions to parts of Georgia and the Carolinas and is expected to bring additional rainfall as it moves inland over the Carolinas on Thursday.

Tropical Storm Debby has brought around 4 to over 10 inches of rain to parts of southeast Georgia and South Carolina resulting in areas of extensive flooding particularly around Savannah and Charleston.

Columbia sent three teams of two out this morning, and they obtained five discharge measurements. One person was sent out for a CWQM fix. This afternoon a fourth crew of two people went out to do a rain gage check and to obtain at least one more discharge measurement. All discharge measurements were for rating development or to capture rating gaps.

Norcross Field Office sent two teams out for discharge measurements. Three measurements were obtained. These measurements were primarily for rating development needs, not due to significant flooding.

Savannah sent two teams out today for gage repairs and one discharge measurement.

Tifton had two teams out for discharge measurements and gage repair. Four measurements were made.

Offices are preparing to make additional discharge measurements tomorrow as basins react to the rainfall and conditions improve enough to safely respond.

USGS interaction continues with FEMA, SCDOT, USACE Charleston and Savannah, SCEMD, and NWS offices.
