Summary: USGS continues to respond to flooding in Southeastern South Dakota.
No Crews out today. One crew will be repairing the Vermillion River nr Vermillion gage on Saturday. Crews will be back out on Monday making discharge measurements and confirming peak gage heights.
Currently we have one gage down, 06479010 Vermillion River nr Vermillion. The temporary orifice line is out of water and the gage height is being flagged from the webpage. We were able to get a measurement at 06485910 Big Sioux River nr Jefferson. There was breakout flow between Big Sioux River nr Jefferson and Sioux City. The river left its banks on the westside and flowed over I-29 and is possible the flow entered the Missouri River upstream of Dakota Dunes and Sioux City. I reached out to SD DOT for any information they might have on the road overflow of I-29. Along with measurements at our real-time gages crews measured discharge at 10 crest-stage gage this past week. A crew is scheduled to meet with SD Public Broadcasting next week.
