Summary: Heavy rainfall in Omaha and east-central Nebraska leads to minor to moderate flooding
About 4-8 inches of rain fell overnight over a stretch of Nebraska just north of Lincoln and extending to Omaha causing flooding in the Papillion Creek and Salt Creek basins.
Three USGS crews (7 Hydrologic Technicians) are currently measuring high flows and verifying peaks at about 12 streamgages. At least six gages were or are at low to moderate flood stage, but most of these sites are urban and extremely flashy.
One streamgage (06610773 West Papillion Creek at Elkhorn, Nebr.) was destroyed by a floating tractor from an adjacent landscaping company, otherwise all streamgages are operating well. No peak of record flows are anticipated, and no indirect measurements are needed.
Information has been communicated via phone to the NWS.
