PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (TX) Flooding continues in East Texas

Date: Thu, 02 May 2024 16:27:28 EDT

Summary: East Texas continues to be affected by flooding.

Flooding continues in East Texas, offices most affected by high flows are Houston, Austin and Fort Worth. Currently most of the events
that took place in Oklahoma have been measured with only minor events being hit for rating purposes.

More precipitation is forecasted for portions of Oklahoma as well as the eastern half of Texas, including areas that have already reached high flow.
At this time the Houston office has reached out for assistance from other offices within the center if the forecasted rain materializes. Aub Ward with the LMG WSC has offered assistance if needed.

As of Thursday morning (5/2) every crew in the Austin field unit was in the field making field verifications, high flow measurements and obtaining HWM's with the intention of visiting 16 sites today. Austin field unit had one site (Big creek nr Freestone, TX) exceed peak of record this morning causing a rating extension for the site. The Houston field unit also has every crew in the field (including Shane Prorok, Data Chief). Shane provided correspondence this afternoon that they were starting to get a handle on the flooding for now until the next rains hit. Fort Worth has a crew on the Brazos and one on the Sabine basins today and will have at least one crew out tomorrow on the southern end of the Trinity.

The other offices in the Oklahoma-Texas water science center that are not currently experiencing high flow conditions continue to monitor their areas and prepare crews due to the forecasted rain over the next several days.
