PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (PA) Moderate to heavy rainfall causing flooding in Pennsylvania

Summary: Strong storms have brought moderate to heavy rain, strong winds, across Pennsylvania since early Monday morning.

The moderate to heavy rain has saturated the ground and is causing minor to moderate flooding across Pennsylvania. The main basins affected are the Monongahela and Youghiogheny in the Western PA as well as the Juniata basin in Central PA, but most all of PA have some higher flows.
Currently there are 12 streamgages in minor flooding and 2 in moderate. It is forecasted to have 3 streamgages in moderate flooding and 25 in minor.

A total of 37 scientists were deployed this morning (04/03/2024) to collect streamflow or storm sampling for water quality. All streamgages are reporting without any damage from the storms.

The breakdown per office is as follows:
Downingtown has 2 crews of 2 and 1 crew of 1 collecting higher flows and 1 crew of 1 collecting QW storm samples.

Williamsport has 5 crews of 1 and 1 crew of 2 collecting higher flows and 1 crew of 2 collecting QW storm samples.

Bridgeville has 5 crews of 2 collecting higher flows.

New Cumberland has 5 crews of 1 and 1 crew of 3 collecting higher flows 2 crews of 2 collecting QW storm samples.

Streamflow measurements are expected tomorrow and may continue for the remainder of the week.
