PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (CA) Minor flooding response

Summary: Field crews measuring high flows due to high rainfall brought by an atmospheric river

A strong atmospheric river is bringing high rainfall and strong winds to California. In the coastal counties from Mendocino to much of southern coastal California, heavy rain is expected to cause flash floods over the next couple of days.
Strong winds are affecting much of California, with hurricane-force winds predicted for the coastal and mountain areas from Monterey to San Luis Obispo. Over 130k people from lost power from Mendicino County through Santa Barbara County.

Today, 11 staff from the Santa Cruz and Santa Maria Field Offices are measuring high flows. 7 Santa Cruz staff are measuring high flows and collecting sediment at select streamgages near Santa Cruz, and 3 Satna Maria staff are measuring high flows in and around the Lompoc area.

No POR extremes have been observed or are expected.

Over the next couple of days, high snow amounts are expected in the higher elevations of the coastal and Sierra mountains.
