Summary: Minor, moderate and major flooding throughout the state.
A storm event dropped 2-4 inches of rain, along with high winds, across the state of Connecticut last night into this morning, with some wet snow and wet ground this led to minor, moderate and major flooding throughout the state.
3 streamgages reached major flood stage: 2 in the Housatonic Basin and 1 in the Thames basin. The site in the Thames basin (Yantic River at Yantic, CT) was a result of rainfall and a partial dam breach upriver of the gage.
Multiple gages throughout the state reached minor and moderate flood stage, with large drainage basin sites continuing to rise.
There were numerous road closures throughout the state due to flooding and downed power line. At least two cities used realtime information from USGS gages to make the decision to close public schools due to flooding concerns. Additionally, because of the partial dam breach mentioned above, there were numerous evacuations in downstream towns with the concern the breach might worsen.
No streamgages have been damaged or destroyed.
Three crews are out making discharge measurements around the state.
