Summary: A significant coastal storm is causing minor to major flooding in parts of Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Rainfall of over 2 inches fell overnight on snowpack with temperatures over 50 deg. has resulted in flooding in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Six crews were deployed this morning (1/10/2024) in MA and RI for discharge measurements. Some gages in central and southeastern MA and RI are expected to reach moderate to major flood stage (up to 1% recurrence interval).
Additional discharge measurements will likely occur tomorrow and Friday in larger and/or slower basins. We have our eye on the next system that is expected to arrive on Friday evening with more significant rain that could exacerbate problems in Eastern MA and RI.
