Summary: With rivers below flood stage, focus shifts to assessment and HWMs in Maine.
All rivers in Maine have receded below flood stage and this will be the final update for this event. Coordination with national coordinators and local contacts will continue, as needed.
Since Tuesday, crews have inspected and/or measured at ~30 streamflow and stage-only gages in Maine. One station was flooded during the event and has been repaired. Six bank-operated cableways were destroyed, mostly due to falling trees or swaying trees pulling them apart.
Recession measurements were significantly impacted by river ice today, both on the shore and flowing frazil ice. With significant ice formation, re-defining ratings might be put on hold.
Today, 4 crews are visiting gages for inspections and measurements, with 3 crews setting HWMs for the FEMA mission assignment and indirect measurements. Nearly 100 HWMs were set so far, work that will continue into next week.
A nationally developed media advisory generated several news stories yesterday, in addition to other opportunistic interviews that happened with field staff.
