PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (ME) Flooding continues in Maine

Summary: Major flooding continues in Maine after widespread rain and snowmelt.

The Kennebec, Androscoggin and Piscataquis River basins are experiencing major flooding after a widespread 3-6" of rain fell on frozen ground with an existing snowpack.

Seven stations are in >500-year RI, with three in a 200 to 500-year RI, and several others in the 5 to 100-year RI. Many tributaries have peaked, but major flooding is expected on main stem rivers, particularly in Augusta and Hallowell. Three stations are at NWS Major flood stage, and

One streamgage was inundated and will be repaired when accessible.

Today, three crews are fighting access issues due to downed lines/trees and washed out roads/bridges. Additional crews will deploy this week.

The New Eng WSC has been in contact with FEMA regarding a mission assignment and is collaborating with the NWS, NERFC, Maine EMA, and other cooperators.
