PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (NY) Flooding in Downstate New York and New York City

Date: Fri, 29 Sep 2023 15:26:29 EDT

Summary: The New York Water Science Center has three teams measuring floods in the Bronx, Western Long Island, and Westchester County NY as a result of a heavy precipitation event.

A coastal storm has delivered between 4 and 8 inches of rain across Western Long Island, New York City, and Westchester County NY. Flooding has been reported across the 5 Buroughs of New York City through local, national, and social media outlets. Three USGS flood teams from the NY WSC are currently deployed in the area to measure floodwaters. The Bronx River at Bronx Botanical Garden (01302020) reached major flood stage. The NY WSC has reached out to local FEMA contacts to determine if there is a need to conduct a high water mark campaign post-event, and to offer any support they may need.
