PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (FL) Hurricane Idalia

Summary: Hurricane Idalia impacts along the west coast of Florida

Hurricane Idalia travelled along the west coast of Florida yesterday before making landfall in the big bend near Perry. The storm impacted the entire coverage area for the Lutz office with rainfall ranging from 2-6 inches. The storm surge caused period of record water levels along the Alafia River and Hillsborough River that empty into Tampa Bay and major flooding along Crystal River, Homosassa River, and Chassahowitzka River. All of these rivers are tidally influenced and had record negative discharge caused by the storm surge.

Three sites in the Crystal River area were overtopped and three others had equipment damage.

The Lutz office has four teams out today doing gage repairs and two teams making discharge water measurements.
