PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (CA) Flooding in Southern California from remnant Hurricane Hilary

Summary: Hurricane Hilary resulted in high water from southern California to southern Nevada.

Remnant Hurricane Hilary passed quickly over southern California on Sunday 8/20. A band of 6-9" of precipitation fell between Santa Clarita and San Bernardino. High flows are occurring from southern California and Las Vegas, NV.

Damage to property is still being assessed.

Five (5) gages are offline in California due to damaged orifices:

10257600 Mission C NR Desert Hot Springs CA
10257720 Chino Cyn C BL Tramway NR Palm Springs CA
10259300 Whitewater R at Indio CA
10259050 Palm Cyn Wash nr Cathedral City CA

The Poway, Redlands, and Santa Maria Field Offices have headed out to measure peak flows and repair gages.

In Nevada, 1 gage was damaged, and one gage reached minor flood.
The Nevada WSC will likely do indirect measurements to determine peak flows at some sites.
