PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (CA) Follow up work after latest storms, RDG installations

Date: Thu, 23 Mar 2023 14:25:43 EDT

Summary: Follow up work after latest storms, RDG installations near Porterville

Over the last 24 hours, precipitation continued over much of the state, and the precipitation for the next 24 hours is forecast to be light.

Most streamgage stations in the areas from the San Jose area through LA and to San Diego are still at higher stages, and several are in flood stage: Salinas River, Pajaro River, Santa Maria River, Santa Ynez River, Ventura River, Mojave River, and Santa Margarita River.

Most staff continue to manage and process data recently collected during the most recent high flow events. Two crews of four people total continue to make follow up measurements at streamgages.

One crew of two from the Santa Maria Field Office is installing an RDG on Deer Creek downstream of the damaged gage today. Tomorrow, they will install an RDG with a velocity sensor for real-time discharge computation downstream of Lake Success on the Tule River. Both of these gages will provide important information to the City of Porterville.
