PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (UT) High flows in Southwestern Utah

Date: Thu, 16 Mar 2023 13:54:43 EDT

Summary: Utah Water Science Center crews are measuring high flows at several gages in Southwestern Utah.

Six Hydrologic Technicians from the Cedar City and Salt Lake Field Offices are working in teams to measure high flows at mainstem and tributary gages on the Virgin River in Southwestern Utah. High flows are due to an atmospheric river event that has exited the area. The Santa Clara River at St. George, Utah, and the Virgin River near Bloomington, Utah, reached flood stage and are now receding. No gages were damaged or destroyed. Data collected as part of this response are utilized by many stakeholders, including the National Weather Service Colorado Basin River Forecast Center.
