PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (GA SC) Hurricane Ian

Summary: Status and response to Hurricane Ian in South Atlantic Water Science Center

Georgia and South Carolina have deployed 85 storm-tide sensors along both coasts from St Marys Georgia to McClellanville South Carolina in advance of Hurricane Ian. A total of 21 Rapid Deployment Gages were also deployed in GA/SC with an additional 6 in NC.

Several gages in the Pee Dee River basin are currently indicating surge from Hurricane Ian ahead of landfall. All gages are currently transmitting.

A total of 28 personnel were involved in the deployment earlier this week. Deployments began Sunday and were completed Wednesday. Local USGS personnel have coordinated with National Weather Service, FEMA, and state emergency management agencies.
