Summary: USGS Jackson, MS office continues efforts collecting highwater discharge measurements on the Pearl River and other sites within the basin.
Crews worked through the weekend obtaining highwater discharge measurements that were used to support NOAA Lower Mississippi River Forecast Center and USACE Vicksburg District models used in determining releases from Ross Barnett Reservoir in order to reduce flood impacts to the City of Jackson and surrounding areas. Since the start of the event (Aug 25), crews have made 12 discharges measurements on 2 sites on the Pearl River (below the reservoir) in the Jackson, MS area and 3 discharge measurement verifying releases through the gated structure at Ross Barnett Reservoir. Also during this event, recorded the peak of record gage height at 02483000 Tuscolameta Creek at Walnut Grove, MS and the highest recorded discharge measurement at the site. Overall crews have made 23 discharge measurements at sites within the area.
