Summary: Widespread minor to isolated major flooding in central & eastern
New York.
Widespread minor to isolated major flooding is occurring in central
and eastern New York as a result of 3-5 inches of rain yesterday
(April 7) and overnight. About two dozen USGS streamgages in the
Delaware R, Susquehanna R, Schoharie Cr, and Hudson R. basins have
exceeded NWS Flood Stage. Four USGS streamgages in the Upper Delaware R.
and Schoharie Cr basins reached NWS moderate Flood Stage and the West Br
Delaware R above Delhi, NY streamgage briefly reached NWS major Flood
Stage. Most streams are forecast to fall below NWS Flood Stage by
Saturday morning, however, streamgages along the mainstem Susquehanna R.
are forecast to remain above NWS minor Flood Stage into Sunday.
A total of 7 USGS crews (14 personnel) from the Milford, Troy, and
Cortland offices are making high-flow discharge measurements
today for rating calibration. Additional follow-up measurements are
planned for Saturday. All USGS gages are currently operating.
