PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (CA) Recessional flows in CA following 1st major winter storm

Summary: Recessional flows are being measured today in CA following the first major winter storm of the season.

Scattered precipitation is expected today as remnants of the first major winter storm of the season moves out of the region. Runoff from this event caused elevated streamflow Statewide. Channels that have not had water in many months experienced flow for the first time. Flows in many streams peaked yesterday and have quickly receded.

Today, the USGS California Water Science Center has 4 crews deployed for recessional measurements from the following service areas: Poway, CA (2); Santa Cruz, CA (1); and Ukiah, CA (1). No crews are expected to deploy tomorrow. Currently, all streamgages are transmitting data. No equipment damage or safety issues have been reported.
