PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (CA) High flow measurements continue across northern California

Summary: heavy rainfall from atmospheric river causing high flows in northern California

Over the last 48 hours, an atmospheric river brought high winds and rainfall over the corridor from Clear Lake to Santa Cruz, Chico to Sacramento, to high snowfall in the higher elevations toward Lake Tahoe. In many areas, the NWS reported upwards of 10-12 inches of rain, with one station north of San Francisco reporting 16 inches. San Luis Obispo through the hills of Santa Barbara received 2 to 3 inches of rain over the last 24 hours and another 2 inches are expected today. A light rain is predicted to continue today over the northern part of the state.

19 field crews are deployed today from the Ukiah, Redding, Sacramento, Santa Cruz, Santa Maria, and Truckee field offices to measure high flow and sample sediment at select gaging stations. No peaks of record expected and one gage needs repair.

Field work is expected to continue for the next couple of days.
