Summary: Remnants of Hurricane IDA aftermath

Numerous sites in the northern 1/2 of New Jersey experienced major flooding due to Hurricane Ida remnants.

10 sites experienced new period of record peaks and 2 other sites came very close to period of record peaks. These numbers will likely increase once crest-stage gage data is retrieved.

6 gages were directly damaged from the flood. We were able to retrieve recorded data from 1 site. The other 5 sites have been repaired. 4 other sites had equipment malfunctions during the peak. High water marks were found and surveyed at all sites that missed recorded peaks. This data is being processed and input into our database.

We have crews in the field making site visits to gages that were hardest hit to assess gage damage and control changes. Although still operational, it is apparent that more gage equipment will need to be replaced due to do being flooded. Crest-stage gages are also being visited to retrieve stick readings and flag high water marks if they were overtopped.

Flagging for indirect measurements is being discussed. We have a FEMA Mission Assignment to flag and survey high water marks at 50 sites.
