PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (CT) Moderate to major flooding in Connecticut

Date: Thu, 02 Sep 2021 17:19:06 EDT

Summary: Moderate to major flooding is ongoing in much of CT.

The remnants of Hurricane Ida dropped roughly 3-8.5 inches of rain on the state of CT late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. The rain and saturated soil from last weeks' storm (Tropical Depression Henri) led to minor, moderate and major flooding throughout the state.

Ten continuous discharge stations reached a 10-year RI and ten stations reached a 2-year RI. Numerous road closures resulted from flooding rivers statewide and the City of Bristol had to evacuate parts of the downtown area due flooding in the Farmington River basin.

The only POR extremes were observed at stations with less than five years of record.

Two streamgages were damaged, one orifice line was dislodged from a bridge abutment and will repaired as soon as it is accessible and one gage had water reach the shelf and destroyed the stage sensor, repair will be made on Friday.

Three crews were deployed to get high water measurements and four crews were out collecting water quality and suspended sediment samples.
