PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (PA) Moderate to Major Flooding impacting Pennsylvania

Summary: PA Water Science Center storm response to the remnants of Hurricane Ida

Recent rainfall from Ida remnants have led to the elevated flow conditions across the southern portion of Pennsylvania.

Widespread moderate to major flooding at many streamgages is forecasted tonight into tomorrow as a result of a broad swath of 3-7 inches precipitation expected to fall through tomorrow morning.

Eleven crews from the Pittsburgh, New Cumberland, and Downingtown offices are out making high flow discharge measurements. Additional discharge measurements will be made over the next several days, dependent on prolonged conditions. Many gages forecasted for moderate and major flooding today through tomorrow. Six storm sensors were deployed August 31 along Paxton Creek and Asylum Run in Harrisburg in advance of the storm. After the flows have receded, sensors will be retrieved.

Water-quality – New Cumberland office has 3 teams out this afternoon at multiple sites. Thursday plans – six teams at multiple sites.

All monitoring stations are currently operational with no damage sustained.
