PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (OH) Minor flooding (NWS terminology) in southeastern Ohio

Date: Wed, 01 Sep 2021 08:31:09 EDT

Summary: Minor flooding (NWS terminology) is impacting southeastern Ohio.

The remnants of what was Hurricane Ida have dumped 2 to 3 inches of rain in southeastern Ohio. The watersheds most affected are Wheeling Creek, Captina Creek and Duck Creek watersheds.

This is considered a minor event, therefore an annual exceedance probability was not considered.

The USGS, Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Water Science Center has two crews out (4 people), from the New Philadelphia Field Office measuring high flows at Wheeling Creek, Captina Creek and Duck Creek. Additionally, there are other smaller sites that we have erected river gages at this summer where we are going to catch high flow measurements.

Cooperators will be notified later this morning. All high-flow measurements will be posted on NWSChat.
