Summary: Deployment of storm surge sensors at 20 locations in Louisiana and Mississippi in advance of Hurricane Ida.
The Lower Mississippi-Gulf Water Science Center (LMGWSC) installed 14 storm surge sensors in Louisiana and 3 in Mississippi today (8/27/2021) in advance of Hurricane Ida. The Oklahoma-Texas WSC will install 3 more storm surge sensors in Western Louisiana tomorrow (8/28/2021).
This work is part of a FEMA Mission assignment. The LMGWSC will not be completing any more field activities until after the hurricane.
NOAA National Hurricane Center Key Messages for Hurricane Ida currently state that extremely life-threatening inundation of 10 to 15 feet above ground is possible within the areas from Morgan City, Louisiana to the Mouth of the Mississippi River.
